MyAnimeList MCP
Discover anime and manga and manage your MyAnimeList lists.
Sign in and connect MyAnimeList
Use an allowed email to sign in at the account page, then select Connect MyAnimeList. The browser opens MyAnimeList authorization; sign in there with the account you want to use and approve the requested access. Return to the MCP account page and confirm the connection is shown. You do not need a MyAnimeList API token or app of your own for this hosted service.
If MyAnimeList rejects the authorization or does not return to the service, retry from Connect MyAnimeList. The hosted application registration and callback URL are operator-managed; a user cannot fix a registration error by creating a token.
Create a personal MCP token
In Access tokens, create a named token with only the read/write capability you need and an expiry. Copy it once and store it securely. This token is separate from your MyAnimeList OAuth authorization. Revoke it from Access tokens if it is exposed.
Configure your MCP client
Add a remote Streamable HTTP server at:
https://mal-mcp.sherwoodcallaway.com/mcpSet
Authorization: Bearer <YOUR_PERSONAL_MCP_TOKEN>. Claude Code:claude mcp add --transport http myanimelist https://mal-mcp.sherwoodcallaway.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer <YOUR_PERSONAL_MCP_TOKEN>"
For other clients, configure this URL and bearer header in their remote Streamable HTTP settings. OAuth-only clients cannot use this bearer-token configuration. MCP Gateway is optional.
Verify and manage access
Reload the tools and call
searchforaccount_status, thenexecuteit. Confirm the MyAnimeList connection belongs to you; try a read/list operation next.- 401 Unauthorized: check the URL and personal MCP bearer token; replace it if expired or revoked.
- Not connected / authorization required: reconnect MyAnimeList from the account page.
- MyAnimeList authorization or callback error: retry once; if it persists, the hosted service’s API client registration needs operator attention.
- Write operation rejected: enable list updates in the connection and create an MCP token with write access.
Disconnect MyAnimeList and revoke MCP tokens from the account page. You can also revoke this app’s access in MyAnimeList’s authorized applications settings.
